QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Ontario schools:
“This summer I called out the Premier and the Minister of Education for their half-baked plan for schools.
The Government’s failure to follow the advice from Sick Kids to cap class sizes at 15 students to ensure physical distancing in classrooms has resulted in over 4,000 cases in Ontario schools over the last three months.
Currently, 1 in 3 schools in Toronto and nearly half of all Brampton schools have active COVID-19 cases. And sadly, two school staffers have lost their lives to the virus.
Last week, Minister Lecce teased early winter break for hot spot regions and then immediately walked back on his words. This flip flop only adds to the already confusing plan Premier Ford and his government have pieced together.
Enough with the flip flops and confusion. Parents and students deserve better.
Rapid testing will help, but the Premier needs to deliver on lower class sizes to keep students safe.”
