GUELPH — MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to remarks made by the Minister of Transportation and the Attorney General about their ongoing legal battle over the construction of Highway 413.
“While while the government ploughs ahead with Highway 413, I stand with the many environmental and community groups fighting to put an end to this economic and environmental black hole.
The 413 is a sprawl supercharger that will cost Ontarians at least $10 billion and pave over 2,000 acres of prime farmland. And just like the Greenbelt giveaway, it has nothing to do helping out everyday Ontarians. Nothing to do with boosting quality of life or delivering solutions to the housing crisis.
It’s about rolling out the red carpet when wealthy insiders come calling.
We have real solutions to build more homes in affordable, connected communities well-serviced by transit options that get you where you need to go – while protecting our prime farmland from costly sprawl.
We’ll keep pushing the government to stop peddling snake oil and come up with a real plan that puts people before speculators.”
