QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that the government wants to include the creation of student residences toward its goal of building 1.5 million homes.
“The lengths this government will go to in order to distract from its rock-bottom housing record are outrageous.
Instead of stepping up and taking leadership to actually build more homes, this government is busy fudging the numbers. What’s next, counting tents?
If the Premier really wanted to meet his housing targets, he would get rid of outdated planning laws that keep us from building apartments, multiplexes and other types of missing middle housing.
He would legalize fourplexes so Ontario receives the billions on offer from the federal government.
Instead, he is saying no to housing over the millions of Ontarians who just want this government to build more homes and bring down soaring housing costs without sprawling onto our farms, forests and wetlands.”
