GUELPH — MPP Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that the government’s review of supervised consumption sites is complete but results have not been shared publicly nor has provincial funding resumed.
“While this government drags its feet and withholds funding from supervised consumption sites, opioid deaths are continuing to rise across Ontario.
Last year, our province saw an estimated 3,644 drug-related deaths. That’s 3,644 sons and daughters, siblings, friends and neighbours.
There is overwhelming evidence that supervised consumption sites save lives and provide pathways to health, housing and other community services.
They are an essential part of any plan to put an end to Ontario’s opioid crisis, and I call on the government to release the results of its review and resume funding to provincial supervised consumption sites immediately.”
