MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement responding to the the Auditor General’s Special Report on Special Education Needs:
“The AG’s report confirms a disturbing reality: the government is depriving students with special needs of their right to an education.
After years of this government’s chronic underfunding of Ontario’s education system, kids are getting left behind.
Teachers aren’t being given the tools, training or information they need to support students with special needs. Parents aren’t being consulted. And there simply aren’t enough education workers in our schools to implement individualized education programs and keep students safe.
It’s time for this government to get its priorities straight— to stop pouring money into wasteful mega projects that line the pockets of billionaires, and start investing in our kids.
This government must increase public education funding to hire and retain more teachers, educators and EAs and reverse their cuts to school boards so that every child in Ontario can feel safe, happy and supported at school.”
