QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner made the following statement relating to an opposition motion for all-day, two-way GO service between Toronto and Kitchener:
“I wholeheartedly support MPP Lindo’s motion for the government to provide a firm funding commitment and clear timeline for all day, two way GO on the Toronto–Guelph-KW corridor.
All-day, two-way GO Train service between Toronto and Kitchener is essential to realize the economic benefits from a connected innovation corridor. It would reduce congestion and help Ontario meet its climate obligations. That’s why I’ve been pushing for two-way GO Service on the Kitchener line for years.
I thank MPP Lindo for introducing a motion that will hold this government accountable and get a firm commitment on all-day, two-way GO.
While we await reliable train service, there is no reason why we cannot have express bus service between cities like Guelph, Hamilton, Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo. People commute between these cities and want reliable, affordable alternatives to driving.
Although I will be away from the House this afternoon for the swearing-in of Guelph’s new police chief, this motion has my full endorsement. I encourage all members to support it.”
