GUELPH — MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to reports that more than 71 percent of the judges appointed by the government worked as prosecutors.
“The Premier has had his thumb on the scales of justice ever since he took office.
Whether it’s making dangerous statements about ‘like-minded judges’ or upending the balance between prosecution and defence appointments, this government’s ceaseless meddling has tainted our justice system.
It’s a dangerous politicization of the judicial process that erodes public trust in our democracy and the government itself.
It’s time for this government to clean up their own mess, stop the meddling, and reverse their legal aid cuts that are further clogging up our already-crowded courts.”
