  • Schreiner to Ford: Give up the carbon grudge

QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner, MPP for Guelph, released the following statement ahead of the Premier’s meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau:

“While I respect the Premier’s change in tone towards the federal government, he must back it up with a change in policy.

A Premier spending tax dollars to sabotage climate solutions cannot be a builder of national unity.

Today the Premier said the ‘politics are done.’

If he is sincere, then he must drop his politically motivated $30 million lawsuit against the federal government.

It’s one thing to disagree, but it’s another to continue wasting time and money on senseless court battles.

The Premier actively soured relations with the federal government and sowed the seeds of division by repeatedly spreading false information about pollution pricing.

But voters rejected his campaign in the federal election, and now the Premier must accept that pollution pricing is here to stay.

I also encourage the Premier to seek partnership with the federal government in addressing Ontario’s escalating housing affordability crisis that is locking low and middle income people out of stable and affordable homes.

We need the province and Ottawa to work together on urgent solutions to give relief to families, young people, and seniors whose futures are in jeopardy from soaring home and rental prices.”
